Church Life - Music - Choirs
Our church is blessed with a
number of choirs that consistently lift our spirits
when they minister to us through the gift of voice
and song. Whether you enjoy full choral sounds,
the rich sounds of male voices, the sweet harmony
of female voices, the delight of children's voices,
or the energetic dynamics of our youth, Willowdale
has a choir that will stir your soul. New members
are always welcome!
Senior Choir
"Let the word of Christ dwell
in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing
one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual
songs, singing with grace in your hearts to
the Lord." Col. 3:16
The objectives of the choir
are:
- to
worship the Lord in hymns, and spiritual songs
and to aid the congregation
- to
worship the Lord in spirit and in truth through
singing
-
to support the Church in its policies and activities
- to
exalt the Name of God in its activities.
We organize various activities
to meet the objectives we set:
- entertaining
guest choirs with refreshments and having Christian
fellowship
-
raising funds by selling oranges for our out-of-town
concerts and charitable donations to CAA students
- breakfast
fellowship after Sabbath presentation for fellowship.
-
devotion before each practice to exhort members
to live in close communion with God and in daily
study of His Word.
- out
of town concerts where we witness for the Lord
in song, deed and conduct.
The choir helps to facilitate
church worship through our song presentation
on Easter, Christmas, Communion and Year End
Services.
We welcome new members who
would like to serve God in this ministry. If
you are able to hold a tune and can commit to
regular practices on Saturdays
at 4 p.m., please contact the church
office.
Children's Choir
“If you
would meet God in peace, feed His flock now
with spiritual food; for every child has the
possibility of attaining unto eternal life.
Children and youth are God’s peculiar treasure”
E.G. White - The Adventist Home, p. 280.
The Willowdale children’s
choir is one of the cornerstones in our children’s
ministry efforts. The children’s choir leadership
provide ministry to the children and in turn,
lead the children in ministry to others through
music. Children learn that ministry is a verb!
The children’s choir consists of children ages
5 – 13 years old. The yearly membership fluctuates
from 60 – 100 voices strong.
For well over a decade the
children’s choir has performed for several evangelistic
crusades, churches, nursing homes, and the General
Conference Session in Toronto. On October 15,
2005, the children’s choir performed at the
Voice of Prophecy’s ‘Diamond Jubilee Rally’
in Oshawa Ontario.
“Time
is short. It is easier and much safer to sow
clean and good seed in the hearts of your children
than to pluck up the weeks afterward”. Signs
of the Times, April 17, 1884
The goal of the children’s
choir is to provide an avenue to capture our
children’s hearts and support their relationship
with Jesus.
We welcome new children who
love to sing and want to serve God with their
budding talents. Please contact the church office
for more information about the children’s choir
and practice times.
“Children
cannot be brought to the Lord by force. They
can be led, but not driven”. E.G. White – The
Adventist Home, p. 307.
Male Chorale
The Willowdale Male Chorale
was organized in 1987 under the leadership of
the late George Cox, followed by Rupert Harvey
from 1996 to 2001. Presently, the group is directed
by Daniella Kuchurivski and accompanied by Albena
Grizdeva, Michiko Koreeda and Rose Mary.
Combined with the patience,
guidance and effort put forth by the director
and pianists, together with a growing membership,
the Male Chorale has moved along harmoniously.
The members’ dedication and love for God and
music have made them stronger for greater worship
and service to God, as well as an inspiration
to others.
The group not only participates
in worship here at Willowdale Seventh-day Adventist
Church but, also, about twice a month, takes
their music ministry to various churches in
Ontario, especially in the greater Toronto area
and its environs. They have performed in a number
of concerts and significant events in the city.
The group has also had engagements in many churches
in New York, Fort Lauderdale, Florida and, most
recently, three churches in Montreal.
Although the Male Chorale
is made up of ordinary men of different backgrounds,
ages and professions, they are of like passion,
as were the disciples who gave their all to
their Master. The goal of the Male Chorale is
to continue to glorify God’s name in song.
