Who I am and where I'm going

I'm Karl Tablante and I am going to the Marshall Islands as a grade 3 teacher. For those who doesn't know where the Marshall Islands is, it can be found in the middle of the south pacific located halfway between Hawaii and Australia. It is a nation that is in a free association with the US, meaning that they have ties to the USA. The two main languages spoken there are English and Marshallese and the population is roughly around 60,000.

Why I want to be a missionary

After having such a spiritual awakening during my time at Camp Frenda, I came to the realization that I needed to do more than what I was already doing here in Toronto. I know that I could have done so much more here (i.e. leading out in the church, helping the homeless, touching the lives of those around me, etc) but I had this desire, this urgent need to go out into the world and show the the world the truth about Jesus and allow them to experience the same loving God that I've been able to experience.

There was actually a few people who helped inspire me to become a missionary during my time working at Camp Frenda. At first I was very skeptical about becoming a missionary and to become a missionary overseas on my own? That certainly wasn't very high on my things to do list. But after seeing how the Holy Spirit has touched my friends and how it has made them want to spread the love of God, I knew then that I had to become a missionary.

It was actually very hard to find a placement that I could fulfill because I didn't fit certain requirements. But with enough prayer and with enough faith, God came through once again and I found the missionary work that was right for me.
